The Museum

Since 1967 (as SKBG in Holm-Seppensen), the members of the DFKM have been collecting light railway vehicles.

The collection currently comprises: 1 steam locomotive, 14 diesel locomotives, 1 electric locomotive, 1 railcar, 1 trolley, 3 army field railway passenger coaches, 2 multi purpose wagons of the Mecklenburg-Pomeranian narrow-gauge railway, as well as field railway goods wagons of various types.

A 1.2 kilometre long track was specially built for demonstration purposes, which was later extended to a total length of 2.0 kilometres.

Our museum is divided into two areas:
On the light rail track, we demonstrate the operation of a small railway around the year 1930 using historical vehicles.

In der kleinen Ausstellung am ehemaligen Streckenendpunkt im Museumsschuppen Lütjenkamp zeigen wir Werkzeuge, wie sie im Bahnstreckenbau und Ziegeleien verwendet wurden.

Direkt auf dem Gelände sind Dieselloks zu sehen, die nach und nach wieder hergerichtet und fahrbereit gemacht werden.

With a few exceptions, light railways are a thing of the past. The few narrow-gauge industrial railways still in operation today are only a pale reflection compared to the large numbers operated in the past.

That is why we are working for more than 50 years to preserve a number of typical vehicles and demonstrate them in working order.

Three types of traction (steam, diesel and electric) are represented among the locomotives, while the wagon fleet ranges from hand-pushed tippers to four-axle passenger cars.

We found our final home in Deinste near Stade over 40 years ago. Our museum concept consists of a combination of exhibition and demonstration in operation.

Since March 2009, our passenger transport vehicles and our tracks have been regularly inspected by TÜV NORD for proper and safe condition.
