Condition of the locomotive February 2024
The DFKM's Deutz OMZ 122 F started leaking in the gearbox in 2022. Therefore the gearbox had to be removed and repaired. During the disassembling of the gearbox a bearing defect was found. The DFKM decided to completely repaint the locomotive after the repaired gearbox was put in place.
The following work was performed:
- Die Lok wurde zerlegt, Dach und Motorhaube abgebaut.
- The gearbox was removed.
- The gearbox was dismantled.
- The shaft with the leaking oil seal was sent to a special repair shop for overhaul.
- The colour has been completely removed.
- Rust spots were repaired and unused screw holes were sealed.
- Complete repainting with primer and top coat:
- Die Kuppelstange und Aufbauten wurden in rubinrot lackiert.
- The frame was painted black.
- Der Innenraum wurde in lichtgrau gemalt.
- The locomotive was reassembled.
- The fuel filter and pumps had to be cleaned after the long downtime.
Since February 2024the locomotive is operational and the DFKM uses it on museum days and special trips.
The pictures tell the story of the restoration, which took around 600 hours of hard work:

The gearbox is opened and the shaft with the defective oil seal could be removed

Removing the bonnet, requires care not to damage anything in the engine compartment.

The bonnet is sanded down and is put next to the locomotive.

Discussion about the colour, what have we got ourselves into?

Locomotive sanded down and clean, but now we need a shower.

Before repainting the bonnet must be smoothed with filler.
